Mini-treks

These are a couple of mini-trips I’m planning to take while I am abroad. These trips will involve much more detailed planning than my normal nomadic plan, and as such I am devoting some more attention to them. By the time I return, you should be able to use one of these pages to plan a whole mini-trip yourself. Click on the title for a sub-page with more information!

September 2008: Scottish Highlands
I’ll be taking 10-12 days to hike a combination of the West Highland Way and Great Glen Way. Check out the map and let me know if you have any advice.

December 2008: Turkey

I’ve just started planning what to do in Turkey. After some great advice, I’ve posted some of my possible options here. I’ll be developing my Turkey trip into its own mini-trek, and possible mini-pages. I’d love to hear your input on where to go and not go.

January 2009: Abheypur, India
I’m currently working with the Engineers without Borders group from the University of Hartford to help a local girls school. They are in the process of implementing a rainwater harvesting system for the school in their continued commitment to the community.

January-February 2009: Lukla, Nepal
I’m planning to trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp. This trek will take just under 2 weeks as I will have to do some acclimatization as I travel. I have complete respect for Mt. Everest, and don’t feel like I need to climb to the top of it just yet. Seeing it is always a good start.

March 2009: Chiang Mai, Thailand
I’m planning to spend a week helping Case Western Reserve University’s Engineers Without Borders chapter in the Chaing Mai region. The overlying communities are in need of more reliable water supplies. The trip is co-sponsored by the Twinsburg Ohio Rotary and Chaing Mai Rotary Clubs. I’ll be posting some more specific details, and hopefully a link to the other groups as I continue to prepare.

I’m also working on planning several other “aid weeks” during my travels where I plan to work with various aid organizations. Right now I’m pursuing a couple of opportunities in Turkey, India, Nepal, Thailand, and Malayasia. Let me know if you think I could help you or a group out during my travels!
